The Botany Bay ghost trail!
Read all about the strange goings on within our mills after dark – IF YOU DARE
For mills of this size and age it would be unusual for paranormal activity not to occur – what is surprising is the level of paranormal activity present in these 2 mills.
A quote given by Jason Karl in 2007 – (founder member of the ghost research foundation and ex presenter of Living TVs most haunted)
Ghostly goings on
Bygone times and Botany Bay or to give them their original titles (grove mill and canal mill) have always had stories told about the strange goings on within their walls after dark. Employers would regale new staff with tales of strange sightings / sounds and smells within the mills and in no time the mills where known locally for their ghostly inhabitants.
Ghost nights / where and how they all began
A book by ex presenter of Living TVs Most Haunted Jason Karl was released in 2006 – titled Haunted places of Lancashire – Bygone Times featured in the book and the story told was by the author himself after he paid a visit to the mill with his Mother. Once the book had been on sale for a week or two a number of customers began to ask members of staff if they had experienced any paranormal activity whilst on duty, the customers seemed somewhat shocked when the staff replied with a resounding yes. Public curiosity mounted and almost daily staff at Bygone Times where quizzed about what they had seen or heard in the mill. Early in 2007 management at Bygone Times gave Jason Karl’s publisher a ring and requested a meeting with the author to try to get as much information about the paranormal activity within the mill as possible, a meeting was arranged and Jason informed the management at Bygone Times that he would like to come into the mill after dark and investigate our paranormal activity further and that the public could come along and investigate with him and his team of mediums and psychics known as ‘The Jason Karl Ghost Research Foundation’ at first the management where somewhat sceptical but decided to arrange a night of paranormal investigation as suggested. A date was set – Saturday 24th March 2007 – the take up for tickets for the ‘ghost night’ was nothing short of phenomenal with 70 tickets selling within a couple of weeks.
The first ghost night
That first ‘ghost night’ was, as everyone who attended will testify, an eye-opener to say the least, tablecloths burst into flames although no one was nearby and no means of ignition was present, a lady who participated in the Ouija board experiment became ‘possessed’ and a large number of ghost hunters refused to enter the old penny arcade in the basement due to an overwhelming feeling of sickness. Everyone left that night in one piece but had certainly been given a lot to think about.
More ghost nights demanded by curious ghosthunters
Once word was out that Bygone Times was the place to be if paranormal activity was your thing more ‘ghost nights’ where booked and subsequently ‘sold out’ within weeks of being advertised.
So popular where the investigations that the management at Bygone Times informed Jason and his team that they had another mill (canal mill) in Chorley and there had always been talk of that mill harbouring disturbing amounts of paranormal activity. A team of mediums where immediately dispatched to the mill and on investigation it was discovered that spirits of former millworkers and mill owners where indeed present within the building.
For 5 years now Jason and his team of mediums and psychics have been carrying out after dark investigations and literally hundreds of members of the public have experienced firsthand the paranormal activity present within our mills.
